Carol J. Clover was born in July 1940 is an American Professor of film studies, rhetoric language and Scandinavian mythology. Clover has had her work widely published in her areas of expertise. Her book from 1992 " Men, Women, and Chainsaws: Gender in the modern Horror Film" achieved popularity beyond academia. Clover has also been credited with developing the "final girl" theory, within the book, which changed both popular and academic conceptions of gender in horror films.
The "final girl" theory refers to the last woman alive in the horror to confront the killer, the "final girl" is the one that is left to tell the story. The "final girl" had been observed in many films including "Alien" and "Halloween." Clover has suggested that in these films, the viewer began by sharing the perspective of the killer, but during the film the audience had experienced a shit in identification to the "final girl" part way through the film.
